From Modest Beginnings
Hi. My name is Kian Lafford, from Cahir, Co Tipperary, Ireland. I was actually born in the Russian City of Omsk, situated in Southwestern Siberia. In 2007, by a strange twist of fate, I came to Ireland, at 2 years of age.
I never had much interest in sport, but there was something about performance that I loved. One of my favourite events is the annual Eurovision Song Contest. I've been to Portugal, Italy, England and the Netherlands at various events.
Magic has always fascinated me. During Covid, I was picked for an online session with Keith Barry. It was incredible to have somebody of Keith's status, speaking to me, on my phone, in my home.
Denis Stone is one of the top performing magicians in Ireland. Denis did a performance at our house one evening. as a birthday treat. He regularly offers me advice, coaching and he has opened doors for me.
In June 2023, I was in London, to see the world famous Penn and Teller, at the Eventim Apollo Theatre. While in the city, I went to Covent Garden to watch the street performers. I was amazed at their professionalism, showmanship and confidence.
I came home and a few weeks later, an opportunity to perform at a local community festival presented itself. My first ever outdoor performance had me excited, fearful and wishing for more.
A modest beginning, in our local community. I wanted it to be the stepping stone to my career.
